Tomato Onion Subji

This is the recipe which I cooked first time in my life when my mom had went out and I have to cook for my brother and dad. To that sentiment I am including this as my first post in my blog. This is one of my favorite recipe for dosa. This recipe taste good with dosa, chapati and bread. This recipe takes less time and I used to choose this to cook when I am running short of vegetables. One of the facts I know about tomato is when we having cooked tomatoes it will act as an internal sunscreen.

Ingredients:

Tomatoes - 4 medium finely chopped
Onions - 3 medium cut in length wise
Oil - 2 tbsp
Garam Masala – 1 tsp
Tomato Sauce – 2 tbsp(optional)
Chilli Powder – 1 tsp
Coriander leaves finely chopped
Salt to taste

To Temper:
Mustard Seeds – 1 tsp
Cumin Seeds – 1 tsp
Asafoetida – 1 tsp
Turmeric – ½ tsp
Red Chillies – 2

Method:

  • First chop tomatoes finely and chop onions lengthwise and keep it aside.
  • Heat 2 tbsb of oil in a pan and add the ingredients under the list 'To Temper'. once they splutter add chopped onions and fry till the onions are translucent and add tomatoes with little salt and cook until tomatoes are slightly soft.

  •  Add chilli powder, Garam masala mix well and add tomato sauce. Cover the lid and cook until tomatoes are soft. When tomato is cooking it will give water for cooking if it is not sufficient if the bottom starts burning sprinkle some water

  • Once done add finely chopped coriander leaves and serve with dosa or chappathi

       Notes:

  • Adding tomato sauce will enhances the taste.
